Stuart’s Surprise 60th Birthday at Stourbridge Rugby Club

What a brilliant night celebrating Stuart’s surprise 60th birthday at Stourbridge Rugby Club. Surrounded by family and loved ones, it was a proper milestone celebration from start to finish, with music running from 7pm until midnight.

A Surprise Entrance with Kool & The Gang

With everyone inside and ready for the big reveal, Stuart walked into the room to Kool & The Gang – Celebration. It was the perfect entrance track for a surprise 60th birthday and immediately lifted the atmosphere in the room.

From Olivia Dean to Luther Vandross

One of the best parts of a family celebration is being able to move across generations and styles. Throughout the night we played everything from Olivia Dean to Luther Vandross, while the main focus of the party was on 80s and 90s favourites.

That mix worked really well for a room full of different ages, giving everyone something familiar to enjoy while still keeping the music personal to Stuart and his family.

DJ and Lighting Setup at Stourbridge Rugby Club

For the evening I used a compact but powerful DJ Wilkes setup with 2 FBT tops, 4 moving head beams, 2 LED strobes and 2 moving head spotlights mounted on the DJ booth.

The combination gave us strong sound coverage and plenty of lighting movement around the room without overwhelming the space, which worked perfectly for a family birthday party at Stourbridge Rugby Club.

A Proper Family 60th Birthday Party

More than anything, this was just a really lovely family event. Stuart was surrounded by the people closest to him, and the whole night had a warm, relaxed atmosphere with plenty of singing, dancing and people enjoying being together.

Milestone birthdays like this are always great to DJ because the music can bring different generations onto the same dancefloor and create those big shared moments across the night.

Finishing the Night with Sweet Caroline

After five hours of music, we reached midnight and finished the party with Neil Diamond – Sweet Caroline. It was exactly the kind of huge singalong needed to bring Stuart’s surprise 60th birthday to a close.
