Lexi’s 18th Birthday Party at The Plough & Harrow, Tamworth

Another brilliant birthday party, this time celebrating Lexi’s 18th birthday at The Plough & Harrow in Tamworth! It was a really fun night with a dance-heavy soundtrack, plenty of house music and the chance to bring something a little different to the party with live drumming alongside the DJ set. We also used the night to try out two new additions to the DJ Wilkes lighting setup – the U-King ZQ02103 Hybrid Wash Beam moving heads.

A New Lighting Setup for Lexi’s 18th

For Lexi’s party, the DJ and lighting setup included 2 FBT professional tops, 2 moving head beams on the truss, 2 LED strobes on the truss and 2 U-King ZQ02103 Hybrid Wash Beam moving heads positioned on the DJ booth. This was a great opportunity to properly test the new U-King movers as part of a real event. They were a great addition to the existing truss lighting and gave me another option for adding movement and colour around the dancefloor.

DJ + Live Drumming

Lexi’s party also included the DJ + Drummer add-on, which meant I could switch between DJing and adding live percussion throughout the night. This was especially fun with the amount of house music being played. Adding live drums and percussion over house tracks gives the music another layer of energy, but it doesn’t only work with dance music. Throughout the party I was also able to add percussion to more traditional party tracks, giving familiar songs a different live feel. It’s something I really enjoy doing and adds another element to the DJ set without needing a completely separate performer.

House, Drum & Bass, Michael Jackson & Rihanna

Musically, the night was definitely on the dancey side. There was plenty of house music, a smaller amount of drum & bass, and two artists in particular proved very popular throughout the party: Michael Jackson and Rihanna. That gave us a really enjoyable mix to work with throughout the evening, moving between dance tracks and big recognisable songs while keeping the energy up. Rather than sticking rigidly to one genre, I could read what Lexi and her guests were enjoying and move the music in that direction as the party developed.

A Brilliant 18th Birthday in Tamworth

We kept the celebrations going until 11pm, bringing a really enjoyable night at The Plough & Harrow to a close. Between the house music, live drumming, new lighting and a crowd that wanted plenty of dance music, it was a great party to DJ. A massive Happy 18th Birthday to Lexi!
