Last night I had the pleasure of providing the entertainment for the King David School Year 13 Prom at the beautiful Fountain House in Manchester, and what a fantastic evening it turned out to be!
We arrived ready for a 7:45pm setup, transforming the room into a nightclub-style party ready for the students to celebrate the end of their school journey. Although we weren’t able to use smoke effects due to the venue’s smoke detection system, the lighting still looked incredible and created an amazing atmosphere throughout the evening.
Professional Prom DJ Setup
For this event we used one of my premium lighting setups, including:
4 Moving Head Beams on the lighting truss
2 LED Light Bars
2 LED Strobes
2 Moving Head Beams on the DJ booth
Professional sound system
Even without the smoke effects, the moving heads and lighting produced an impressive show that kept the dancefloor looking spectacular all night long.
A Night Full of 2016 Throwbacks
One of the highlights of the evening for me was the music selection. The playlist quickly became packed with 2016 anthems, bringing back some incredible memories and creating an electric atmosphere. As someone who loves music from that era, it was fantastic to see the students singing every word and filling the dancefloor from start to finish.
Crowning the Prom King & Queen
A special moment during the evening was announcing the Prom King and Prom Queen. Congratulations to both winners! It was a brilliant moment that everyone in the room got behind before the celebrations continued late into the evening.
Discovering New Music
One of the things I enjoy most as a DJ is taking requests, and this event certainly didn’t disappoint.
Throughout the evening I received several requests for Jewish and Israeli music. These were songs I’d never played before, but that’s exactly why I love allowing requests. As soon as they came on, the energy in the room completely changed, with the dancefloor coming alive and everyone joining in. It’s always great to experience different cultures through music, and it reminded me how powerful the right song can be in bringing people together.
An Unexpected Finish
Unfortunately, the evening came to an abrupt end when the venue manager asked for the music to stop for reasons unknown to me. While it wasn’t the ending anyone expected, it certainly didn’t take away from what had been a brilliant celebration.
From where I was standing, it looked like everyone had an amazing time, and it was a pleasure to be part of such an important milestone for the Year 13 students.
Thank You, King David School
A huge thank you to King David School for choosing DJ Wilkes to provide the entertainment for your Year 13 Prom. It was an honour to help celebrate such a memorable occasion, and I’d like to wish all of the students the very best for whatever comes next.
If you’re organising a school prom, graduation event, or leavers’ celebration and are looking for a professional DJ with high-quality sound, intelligent lighting, and a packed dancefloor, I’d love to help make your event one to remember.
