Alex & Taylor’s Wedding at St Johns House, Lichfield – Congratulations Mr & Mrs Shirley!

What a brilliant night celebrating Alex and Taylor’s wedding at St Johns House in Lichfield, and a huge congratulations to the new Mr & Mrs Shirley! I joined the celebrations for the evening reception, DJing from 7:30pm until midnight, with a soundtrack featuring plenty of 90s and 00s favourites, alongside lots of house music when our brilliant sax player joined the party. Alex and Taylor also chose the DJ Wilkes custom neon sign add-on, giving the DJ setup a really personal touch for their wedding.

A Personalised Neon Sign for Mr & Mrs Shirley

One of the additions Alex and Taylor chose for their wedding was a custom neon sign featuring their name, mounted prominently on the front of the DJ booth. It completely personalised the setup for the new Mr & Mrs Shirley and looked fantastic as part of the evening reception. The best part is that the sign isn’t simply hired for the wedding — Alex and Taylor got to take their personalised neon sign home with them afterwards, giving them something from the setup to keep as a reminder of their wedding day.

Cake Cutting – The Four Tops

For the cake cutting, Alex and Taylor chose “I Can’t Help Myself (Sugar Pie, Honey Bunch)” by The Four Tops — a proper feel-good classic before we moved towards the first dance and the start of the evening party.

First Dance with DJ & Live Sax

For their first dance, Alex and Taylor chose “Can’t Take My Eyes Off You” by Frankie Valli. This was made even more special with @musicwitheve performing live sax alongside me. She was absolutely brilliant, and having live sax as part of the first dance added another dimension to an already special moment for the new Mr & Mrs Shirley.

DJ & Live Sax at St Johns House

Throughout the night we played a mixture of music, with the 90s and 00s featuring heavily. When the sax came out, we moved much more towards house music, giving @musicwitheve plenty of tracks to perform alongside and creating that DJ-and-sax atmosphere on the dancefloor. I always enjoy working alongside live musicians because it allows the DJ set to become much more of a performance while the music can still move with the crowd.

90s, 00s & House Music

The soundtrack wasn’t restricted to one genre, but the night definitely had a strong 90s and 00s influence. As always, the music developed around what Alex, Taylor and their guests were enjoying, moving between recognisable favourites and plenty of dance and house music. The combination worked particularly well alongside the sax and kept the evening feeling varied without losing the energy on the dancefloor.

Finishing with Aerosmith

After DJing from 7:30pm, we eventually reached midnight and it was time for the final song. Alex and Taylor chose “I Don’t Want To Miss A Thing” by Aerosmith — a huge final song and a brilliant way for everyone to come together before bringing the celebrations to a close.
